| Summary, etc. | Le cérémonial qui entourait l’accueil d’un hôte étranger à la cour de Bourgogne était très élaboré. Il impliquait une organisation préalable complexe qui nécessitait la mise en œuvre d’un réseau d’informateurs aptes à fournir au prince des renseignements sur le voyageur avant son arrivée. Les officiers de l’hôtel, maîtres d’hôtel, chambellans, hérauts, jouaient un rôle majeur à la fois dans la préparation de la cérémonie d’accueil et dans la réception proprement dite. Cette cérémonie était adaptée aux circonstances politiques et diplomatiques et mettait clairement en lumière, selon des règles strictes, le statut de l’hôte et les relations qu’il entretenait avec le duc de Bourgogne. Néanmoins, dans la pratique, il existait une marge suffisante pour qu’après la rencontre protocolaire, des relations moins formelles se nouent. |

| Summary, etc. | The ceremonial that surrounded the arrival of a foreign guest at the Court of Burgundy was very sophisticated. It implied a complex preliminary organization that required to resort to a whole network of informants able to give the prince all the information he needed on the traveller prior to his arrival. The officers of the « hôtel », « maîtres d’hôtel », chamberlains, heralds, played a major part both in the preparation of the greeting ceremony and in the reception proper. This ceremony was adapted to the political and diplomatic circumstances and clearly highlighted, according to strict rules, the status of the guest and the relations he entertained with the Duke of Burgundy. Yet, at the level of actual practice, there existed a sufficient margin, after the formal encounter, for less formal relations to develop. |
