| Summary, etc. | RésuméAu cours de travaux d’aménagement d’une casemate du château moderne de Gravelines, les vestiges d’un ouvrage fortifié médiéval ont été découverts. Ces vestiges comportent un mur droit cantonné de deux tourelles d’angles, dont une renfermant un escalier. Ils correspondent à la partie arrière d’une tour de l’enceinte médiévale construite après 1383. Outre cette découverte, les remparts mis au jour permettent de mieux saisir la genèse et l’évolution architecturale du château construit pour l’essentiel entre 1528 et 1536. |

| Summary, etc. | The Discovery of a Mediaeval Wall Tower in GravelinesIn the course of outfitting works carried out on a casemate of Gravelines’ modern castle, the remnants of a mediaeval fortified building were unearthed. These remnants include a straight wall erected between two angle turrets, one of which characterized by the presence of a staircase. They correspond to the rear part of a tower belonging to the mediaeval walls erected after 1383. Beside this discovery, the walls that were unearthed lead to a better understanding of the genesis and the architectural evolution of the castle, built in the major part between 1528 and 1536. |
