| Summary, etc. | La garde nationale mobilisée est une unité méconnue du conflit franco-allemand de 1870-1871. Organisée dans chaque département après la proclamation de la République, elle constitue une nouvelle ébauche d’un service national obligatoire. Pour comprendre ce que fut cette unité aux effectifs non négligeables, la garde nationale mobilisée du département du Nord peut retenir notre attention. En effet, elle se distingue tout d’abord des autres par l’extrême confusion de son organisation. Mais le Nord fut surtout le seul département qui osa constituer le plus grand nombre d’unités combattantes avec ses mobilisés. Cet exemple départemental présente aussi la singularité des « mobilisés » par rapport aux autres gardes nationaux, mobiles et sédentaires. Enfin, il démontre à nouveau la nécessité pour une armée professionnelle de disposer de réservistes instruits. |

| Summary, etc. | «The Example» of the Nord draftees in the 1870-1871 WarThe drafted national guard is an ill-known unit involved in the 1870-1871 Franco-German conflict. Organised in every department after the proclamation of the Republic, it is a new approach to the introduction of a compulsory military service. To understand what this corps, whose enrolment was far from negligible, was like, the Nord department drafted national guard can serve as a significant example. Indeed, it differs from all others by the extreme confusion of its organisation. But, on the other hand, the Nord was the only department that dared to make so many combat units with its draftees. This study allows us also to outline the singularity of the « draftees » in comparison with the other national guard units, mobile or sedentary. Finally, it demonstrates again how important it is for a professional army to be able to rely on drilled reservists. |
