| Summary, etc. | RésuméEn dépit du massacre qui eut lieu à l’issue de la bataille d’Azincourt, nombreux furent les prisonniers français qui tombèrent entre les mains des Anglais. Si nous connaissons le sort qui fut réservé aux plus importants d’entre eux, celui du commun, dont on espérait tirer un profit immédiat, n’a toutefois jamais fait l’objet d’une étude particulière. La survie exceptionnelle d’un dossier de contrats passés par les maîtres des prisonniers avec le roi d’Angleterre nous a permis de combler cette lacune. Grâce à un examen approfondi de ces documents et à leur recoupement avec d’autres sources, il nous a en effet été possible de retracer le parcours de ces infortunés dans le détail, depuis le moment de leur capture jusqu’à celui de leur libération sur parole. Contrairement à bien d’autres cas, nous constaterons qu’à Azincourt, les intérêts de chacun concoururent au déroulement rapide et efficace de leur mise à rançon. |

| Summary, etc. | The Fate of the Prisoners of Agincourt (1415)In spite of the slaughter that took place at the end of the battle of Agincourt, the French who were made prisoners by the English were numerous. If we know the fate that befell the most prominent of them, the fate of the commoners, who was hoped to generate an immediate profit, was never made the topic of a specific study. The exceptional survival of the minutes of a contract established between the prisoners’ masters and the King of England allows us to fill this gap. Thanks to a thorough survey of these documents and their confrontation with other documentary sources, it was given us to follow the trail of these unfortunate in a fairly detailed way, from the moment of their capture to the moment when they were paroled. Contrary to many other cases, we can see that in the case of Agincourt, the private interests of all the parties involved concurred to fast and effective ransom demands. |
