| Summary, etc. | RésuméLe modèle de la cité-jardin inspire, dès avant 1914, une intense réflexion en France au sein du Musée social et connaît un début de réalisation par des compagnies minières du Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Après 1920, bénéficiant du contexte de la reconstruction, la Compagnie du chemin de fer du Nord et son ingénieur en chef Dautry systématisent ce type d’habitat conçu de façon à accroître le rendement du personnel et à renforcer le sentiment d’appartenance à la profession. Mais la volonté de régulation sociale rencontre des limites. Après 1945 progresse l’idée selon laquelle la cité-jardin n’a pas vraiment résolu le problème du logement social en France. |

| Summary, etc. | The Garden-Allotments of the Compagnie du Chemin de Fer du Nord: a Working-Class Habitat in the Outskirts of the CityThe model of garden-allotment projects fuels, even before 1914, an intense reflection in France within the Musée Social and actual work on such projects is even initiated by mining companies of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais. After 1920, thanks to the reconstruction effort, the Compagnie du Chemin de Fer du Nord, with chief engineer Dautry, develop the systematic construction of that type of housing designed on order to increase the productivity of the work force and strengthen the feeling of belonging to the profession. But the emphasis on social regulation reaches its limits. After 1945, the opinion that the garden-allotment did not really solve the problem of social housing in France gradually gains ground. |
