| Summary, etc. | RésuméLes trois dernières années ont été l’occasion pour Archéopole de réaliser plusieurs fouilles préventives sur des occupations gallo-romaines dans la vallée de la Marque. Plusieurs puits à eau y ont été découverts. Leur bon état de conservation et leur relative faible profondeur ont permis de les étudier de manière quasi-exhaustive. En dépit de leur synchronisme relatif et de leur appartenance à une même entité géographique, leurs techniques de mise en œuvre et les matériaux employés mettent en évidence un très large panel typologique et un savoir-faire élaboré qu’il est important de caractériser par le biais, notamment, d’études xylologiques, tracéologiques et dendrochronologiques. Cette première étude met d’abord l’accent sur un descriptif précis des contextes et des puits présentés (puits en bois, puits mixtes et puits en dur), avant d’extrapoler ces données et de les synthétiser en les regroupant au sein d’une même carte de répartition, la finalité étant d’ébaucher les éventuelles tendances culturelles ou géographiques qui justifieraient de telles divergences. |

| Summary, etc. | Well Construction at Three Sites in the Marque Valley (Nord) : Marcq-en- Baroeul, Mérignies 1 and 2, and Marquette-lez-LilleThe past three years provided Archéopole with the opportunity to carry out several preventive excavations at Gallo-Roman period occupation sites in the Marque valley ; this led to the discovery of several water wells. Their good state of preservation and their relatively shallow depth made it possible to carry out a near complete study. In spite of their relative synchronicity and of their belonging to a single geographical entity, the techniques resorted to for their sinking and in the materials used point to a very extensive typological array of methods of construction and a developed know-how the characterization of which, though xylological, traceological and dendrochronological studies is of a significant importance. This report focuses first on an accurate description of the contexts and of the wells presented in this paper (wooden wells, mixed construction wells and stone-work wells), before it expands on these data and attempts a synthesis by considering them within the context of the area, the aim being to outline the possible cultural or geographical trends that may account for such discrepancies. |
