| Summary, etc. | RésuméCette contribution s’inscrit dans l’étude de l’action publique des élus sur la maté-rialité de la ville dont ils ont la charge et sur son image qu’ils contribuent ainsi à façonner progressivement. S’appuyant sur des travaux universitaires pluridiscipli-naires, elle s’attache à envisager les visages successifs que le maire de Lille – Pierre Mauroy (1973-1995) – a revêtus : maire « bâtisseur », maire « animateur », élu « entrepreneur ». Elle entend également montrer en quoi le grand projet urbain Euralille, sorti de terre sous sa mandature, est en quelque sorte un « retour vers le futur » ; une opération qui s’inscrit à la fois comme l’héritière de projets très anciens et comme leur contre-projet ou leur « repentir ». |

| Summary, etc. | Pierre Mauroy the Builder : « The Heir to the Future »This contribution comes as a part of the study of the elected officials’ public action on the materiality of the town they are heading and on the image of their which they thus, gradually, contribute to shaping. Relying on cross-disciplinary academic research, it aims at appraising the successive images that Pierre Mauroy – Mayor of Lille (1973-1995) – left of himself : that of a « builder » mayor, « impulse-giving » mayor, politician and « manager ». This paper intends also to show to what extent the major Euralille urban program, lifted from the ground during his mandate, is somehow a « return to the future » ; a program that is presented as both the heir of vary ancient projects and as their counter-project or their « repentance ». |
