| Summary, etc. | RésuméLa chasse aux sorcières qui se déclenche en Europe occidentale aux xvie et xviie siècles est à replacer dans une logique de reconquête catholique face à la Réforme protestante. Une question se pose alors : existe-t-il un lien entre hérésie et sorcellerie, cette dernière devant être dissociée de la simple superstition ? Le sorcier est, en effet, celui qui rend un culte à Satan et qui s’immisce dans le domaine du sacré. Il est donc un hérétique qui menace la vraie foi et surtout le pouvoir du clergé.Ce clergé fut donc le premier à donner vers la fin du xve siècle une définition de la sorcellerie et à engager une répression par le biais de l’Inquisition. Cette répression fut récupérée et poursuivie par la justice royale à partir du xvie. À cette date la Réforme protestante était en pleine expansion. Un lien fut alors établi entre sorcellerie et protestantisme, deux phénomènes qui étaient, selon les catholiques, source de désordre et d’incroyance. |

| Summary, etc. | Legislation against Heresy and the Repression of WitchcraftThe witch hunt which is initiated in Western Europe in the xvith and xviith centuries is to be understood in the more general context of a logic of Catholic reconquest over the Protestant reform. A question is thus raised : is there a connection between heresy and witchcraft, which must be dissociated from simple superstition ? The sorcerer is indeed one who worships Satan and trespasses on the field of sacredness. He is then a heretic who represents a threat to the true creed and above all to the clergy. This clergy was then the first to give, towards the end of the xvth century, a definition of witchcraft and to engage in repression through the Inquisition. This repression was taken over and expanded by the King’s judiciary in the XVIth century. At this time the Protestant reform was in full bloom. A connection was thus made between witchcraft and Protestantism, two phenomena which, according to the Catholics, were a source of disorder and disbelief. |
