Summary, etc. | Au mois de décembre 1418 un nommé Guillaume Cotelin, dit Le Cauchois, homme d’armes servant dans les armées du duc de Bourgogne Jean sans Peur, tua au cours d’une rixe l’un de ses compagnons d’armes nommé Poncelet Parquet. À la suite de cet homicide, au mois de mars 1419, le gouvernement royal, sous domination bourguignonne, lui octroya une lettre de rémission. L’étude de ce document, dans lequel sont retracés les faits qui ont conduit au crime, permet de cerner le profil social et de retracer en partie la carrière de cet homme de guerre. Les données ainsi réunies contribuent à éclairer la composition de la société militaire bourguignonne du début du xve siècle ainsi que les liens de solidarité et les usages qui structuraient le groupe. |

Summary, etc. | Guillaume Cotelin’s CrimeIn the month of December 1418, a certain Guillaume Cotelin, aka Le Cauchois, a soldier serving in the Duke of Burgundy John the Fearless’s army, killed in a fight one of his fellow soldiers called Poncelet Parquet. Following this manslaughter, in March 1419, the royal government, under Burgundian dominance, granted him a letter of remission. The study of this document, which detail the events that led to the offense, makes it possible to make out this man of war’s social profile as well as reconstruct part of is career. The data thus collected shed some light on the composition of the Burgundian military society in the early XVth century and on the relations of solidarity and customs that structured the group. |
