| Summary, etc. | Les Gestes des évêques de Cambrai, commandés par l’évêque Gérard Ier de Florennes (1012-1051), dont la première rédaction date de 1024/1025, s’inscrivent dans la typologie du genre historiographique des gesta episcoporum, illustré dans dix-huit cités d’Occident entre la fin du viiie et le xiie siècle. Ils établissent une histoire de l’église d’Arras et de Cambrai, depuis les origines, construite autour de la liste épiscopale complète de saint Vaast (v. 500-540) à Erluin (996-1012), prédécesseur de Gérard. C’est l’objet du livre I. Mais avant d’en venir à cet épiscopat dans son livre III, l’auteur donne un deuxième livre original, consacré aux différentes églises et monastères dépendants, construisant ainsi l’espace sacré du diocèse. Le livre III, auquel sont consacrées les études ici rassemblées, doit être lu en tenant compte des deux précédents qui établissent les coordonnées, temporelle et spatiale, de l’évêque Gérard, et plus généralement de l’église de Cambrai dans la première moitié du xie siècle. |

| Summary, etc. | The Gesta pontificum (sive episcoporum) Cameracensium: a typological approachThe first part of the Acts of the bishops of Cambrai, ordered by Bishop Gerard of Florennes (1012-1051), was written between 1024 and 1025. It belongs to the historiographical genre of the gesta episcoporum illustrated in eighteen western cities between the late eighth and the twelfth century. The Gesta establish a history of the church of Arras and Cambrai, from its beginnings, built around the complete episcopal list, from St Vedastus (c. 500-540) to Erluin (996-1012), Gerard’s predecessor : this is the purpose of book I. Before coming to Gerald’s episcopate in book III, the author delivers a second original book, devoted to different churches and monasteries, building the sacred space of the diocese. Book III, to which the papers gathered here are devoted, must be read together with the previous two, that set the coordinates, in time and space, of Bishop Gerard, and more generally of the Church of Cambrai in the first half of eleventh century. |
