| Summary, etc. | La découverte d’une collection inédite de mobilier lapidaire de qualité, finement sculptée dans des remblais de démolition du xvi e s., situés au pied du croisillon sud des vestiges de la cathédrale, nous invite à nous poser les questions sur son origine, son identification et les apports d’un tel lot pour la connaissance du site. Sur la base d’une étude méthodologique adaptée (élaborée à partir de la conception d’un corpus des éléments, d’un examen des matériaux et d’une confrontation avec des éléments régionaux), il a été possible de se faire une idée de la typologie structurelle et du caractère décoratif qui était en notre possession. Issu du registre religieux, impliquant une lecture à la verticale des résultats, correspondant davantage à une archéologie du bâti, le lapidaire mis au jour appartient au portail sud de la cathédrale. Ce portail adopte un style proche de celui de la cathédrale d’Amiens, avec des statues-colonnes posées sur des dais avec coussins et surmontées d’un autre dais. Ce système décoratif ne se retrouve pas dans les autres cathédrales du nord de la France. Caractéristique qui permet d’affiner la datation. Rapproché également de la collégiale de Saint-Omer, ce lot sculpté, homogène, peut être daté du premier quart au milieu du xiii e s. Ce qui renvoi la construction de la cathédrale de Thérouanne dans le sillage de celle d’Amiens. |

| Summary, etc. | The Cathedral of Notre Dame, Thérouanne : publication of the lapidary of the south portal In 2010 an archaeological project at the site of the former Cathedral of Notre Dame, Thérouanne, led to the discovery of fine lapidary carving. This high quality work was recovered from an undisturbed demolition level of the 16 th century. It was located at the foot of the south crosspiece of the building. The main iconography of the group has a clear religious identity. This imagery, linked to the archaeological context, brings forth the following conclusion : the lapidary work comes from the ornamental decor of the south portal of the Cathedral. Following a comparative study of other cathedrals of the region or of the same period, a convincing parallel was established with the sculptural work of the central portal at Amiens, where the parallel is incontestable, whilst there is also a commonality with the sculptural college of Saint-Omer. It is possible, on this evidence, to put a part of the ornamentation of the disappeared Cathedral towards the second quarter of the 13 th century. |
