La contribution consacrée à la manifestation organisée à Douai par le Mouvement National Algérien vise – à partir de documents d’archives et de témoignages oraux – à présenter sous différents angles un événement particulièrement brutal, voire sanglant, illustrant les conséquences de la lutte pour l’indépendance algérienne dans le bassin minier. Elle a pour ambition d’évoquer la présence et l’action des nationalistes ainsi que la riposte des forces de l’ordre et de préciser autant qu’il est possible – en l’état actuel des sources – les éléments éclairant cette crise aigüe, qui constitue un moment clé de cette histoire régionale. |

| Summary, etc. | An ordinary Sunday in Douai? The Algerian demonstration on October 9th, 1955The actions of Algerian nationalists within immigration and the policies of repression that were set up against them have been reassessed recently. The demonstration which was organized in Douai by the Algerian national movement (MNA) is the object of this contribution, based on both archive documents and witnesses. Studied from different angles, the demonstration appears as a violent and bloody event, illustrating the consequences of the struggle for independence in the mining district of Northern France. This contribution aims at assessing the presence and action of Algerian nationalist activits, as well as the response by the forces of law and order. It also intends to clarify (as far as possible according to available sources) the components of this crucial crisis which constitutes a key moment in this regional history. |
