| Summary, etc. | Cette étude évoque, dans un premier temps, les parcours croisés d’Edmond Michelet (1899-1970) et de René Brouillet (1909-1992) au service de l’État, entre 1945 et 1958 où leurs carrières divergent rapidement, puis entre 1958 et 1970 où ils sont amenés à coopérer, notamment à propos des affaires algériennes et des relations avec le Saint-Siège auprès duquel René Brouillet est ambassadeur. Dans une seconde partie, elle envisage l’engagement spirituel et politique – le catholicisme et le gaullisme – de ces deux éminents personnages qui ont noué des liens d’amitié et servi loyalement le général de Gaulle et Georges Pompidou. Ce faisant, elle met aussi en évidence les motivations spirituelles qui ont constamment guidé l’action de l’ancien déporté à Dachau et la foi du diplomate qui est étroitement liée à sa fidélité au souvenir ainsi qu’à sa contribution à la promotion de Michelet le croyant. |

| Summary, etc. | Reflections on how two men’s spiritual and political paths crossed: Edmond Michelet and René BrouilletThis article examines in a first part the intertwined careers of both Edmond Michelet’s (1899-1970) and René Brouillet’s (1909-1992), first between 1945 and 1958 when they diverged, and then between 1958 and 1970 when the two men cooperated, more particularly in the Algerian affairs and in the relations with the Holy See to which René Brouillet was ambassador. In a second part, this study considers the spiritual and politic commitment – Catholicism and Gaullism – of these two prominent figures who stroke up a friendship and served faithfully General de Gaulle and Georges Pompidou. This paper also highlights the deep-seated motives which continuously led, on the one hand the ancient interned in Dachau’s initiatives, and on the other hand the diplomat’s faith which was closely related to his loyalty to the Catholic Michelet which he tried hard to promote. |
