| Summary, etc. | La fouille de l’îlot Carnot eut lieu en 2006 dans la partie nord-est de la ville. L’occupation couvre les xiiie- xixe s., mais cet article traite de l’occupation médiévale. Le terrain repose sur une assise de sable éolien dans laquelle s’ouvrent quelques structures, avant d’être probablement mise en culture. Ces niveaux de sables remaniés sont percés de fosses et de silos définitivement comblés lors de la seconde moitié du xiiie ou du début du xive s. Les premiers habitats s’alignent selon la rue de Dunkerque selon une trame régulière, puis gagnent le cœur d’îlot au cours du xive s. L’occupation du secteur semble atteindre son maximum aux xive et xve s. ; au début de l’époque moderne, les bâtiments se resserrent le long de la rue. En arrière sont aménagés une série de jardins particuliers. La céramique médiévale de la parcelle fouillée rue Carnot est en relation avec le fonctionnement de plusieurs bâtiments. C’est une vaisselle culinaire et de préparation composée de pots, tèles, poêlons, bassins et cruches. La transition typologique du xive s. au xve s. est perceptible en ce qui concerne notamment la gamme de tèles et de poêlons. L’utilisation de cruches nombreuses est remarquable du bas Moyen Âge jus qu’au xvie s. (phase 4) et illustrée par deux ensembles distincts provenant de latrines. Plusieurs poteries complètes du xvie s. restent utilisées au xviie s., voisinant aux côtés de formes nouvelles. |

| Summary, etc. | Gravelines (Nord): Medieval houses and settlement in the Carnot sub-districtAn excavation was undertaken in Gravelines, in the Carnot sub-district in 2006, in the north-western part of the medieval town. Archaeological evidence encountered dated from the 13th to the 19th century, but the aim of this paper is to describe the medieval settlement remains. The site was located on sandy soil, and may have been cultivated around this initial date. Pits and silos had been cut at this initial level but had certainly been abandoned during the second half of the 13th/early 14th century. The first houses lay aside the rue de Dunkerque following a regular pattern, and then stretch to the heart of the site, with this evidence dating to the 14th century. The occupation seems to reach its maximum between the 14th and 15th centuries. Medieval ceramics in Gravelines, from excavations at the rue Carnot, can be related to dated domestic buildings. The corpus covers cooking and food preparation vessels, constituted by pots, tèles, pans, basins and jugs. The range of tèles (mixing and grinding bowls) and pans shows a typological evolution from the 14th to the 15th century. The use of many red-glazed jugs until the 16th century is attested by two different assemblages, coming from latrines deposits. Some complete vessels dated to the 16th century, were in use at the same time as several new forms of wares. |
