| Summary, etc. | À la fin du xve siècle, à Douai, le marché de la bière fournissait à la ville une part importante de ses revenus. Lorsque les dominicains demandèrent le droit de construire une brasserie pour y produire une bière exemptée d’accises, les autorités échevinales mirent tout en œuvre pour contrecarrer leur plan. Le soutien de Maximilien Ier à l’égard des religieux ne fut pas suffisant. Leur tentative de brasser illégalement finit par déclencher une procédure judiciaire depuis le Grand Conseil de Malines. Il fallut attendre l’intervention de l’héritier légitime des possessions bourguignonnes, Philippe le Beau, pour débloquer la situation. |

When the Dominicans asked the right to build a brewery to produce a beer exempt from taxes, the urban authorities made every effort to thwart their plan. The support of Maximilian I for the religious was not enough. Their attempt to brew illegally ends up triggering legal proceedings since the Grand Council of Mechelen.
