| Summary, etc. | À l’occasion d’un colloque sur « guerres et paix au XXIe siècle », Pierre Hassner revenait sur la théorie du choc des civilisations présenté par Samuel Huntington. Pour le Français, cette thèse comprenait des ambiguïtés, notamment autour de la place de la religion, alors qu’il lui semble nécessaire de prendre en compte les systèmes économiques et politiques face à la modernisation et à la globalisation (aujourd’hui la mondialisation). Avec la question non résolue du lien entre démocratie et individualisme et entre fondamentalisme et « barbarisation ». Texte paru pour la première fois dans le n° 574 de la RDN, en avril 1996. |

| Summary, etc. | [RDN n° 574, April 1996] At the colloquium on Wars and peace in the twenty-first century, Pierre Hassner reviewed Samuel Huntington’s theory of clash of civilisations. For the Frenchman, this theory has a number of ambiguities, particularly on the place of religion, yet for him it would appear appropriate to take into account the economic and political systems that are facing modernisation and globalisation. There remain the unresolved matters of the link between democracy and individualism and that between fundamentalism and barbarism. |
