| Summary, etc. | Parler d’efficacité est à double tranchant dans les métiers de l’éducation et de la formation. D’un côté, des pratiques sans impact manquent évidemment leur cible. De l’autre, cet impact dépend d’interactions humaines et d’une éthique de la relation irréductibles aux critères de réussite de la rationalité instrumentale. Étudier l’usage du mot « efficacité » ( effectiveness) dans différents contextes culturels permet ainsi d’observer : 1) le statut des effets attendus par un pouvoir imposant ainsi ses échéances et ses vues ; 2) comment la question de l’efficacité paraît à la fois résolue et/ou vivement débattue selon les contextes ; 3) en quoi elle est de facto conflictuelle dans les modes ordinaires de rationalisation ; 4) quel rôle elle joue – entre autonomie et responsabilité, expertise et imputabilité – dans le processus lui-même incertain de professionnalisation. |

| Summary, etc. | Speaking of effectiveness is a double-edged sword in education and training professions. On the one hand, practices with no impact obviously miss their target. On the other hand, this impact depends on human interactions and an ethic of relationship that cannot be reduced to the success criteria of instrumental rationality. Studying the use of the word effectiveness in different cultural contexts makes it possible to observe: 1. the status of the effects expected by an authority imposing its deadlines and views; 2. how the question of effectiveness appears to be both resolved and/or hotly debated depending on the context; 3. in what way this question is de facto conflictual in ordinary modes of rationalisation; 4. what role it plays – between autonomy and responsibility, expertise and accountability – in a process of professionalisation which is itself uncertain. |
