| Summary, etc. | L’objectif de cet article est de montrer que les effets de la recherche de rente sont influencés par le contexte institutionnel et politique. Après une rapide présentation de la littérature, nous envisageons les incidences que peuvent avoir différentes caractéristiques des systèmes politiques sur la recherche de rente. Les pays européens, caractérisés par des disparités nationales importantes en termes de protection des marchés et par une tendance commune à la diminution de ces protections, permettent de mener une analyse empirique comparative au niveau national. A partir des mesures de l’OCDE sur les évolutions des protections des marchés nationaux au sein de l’Espace Économique Européen, nous montrons, qu’à l’échelle nationale, le résultat de la recherche de rente est influencé par des éléments du contexte politique et institutionnel national. Ces effets sont différenciés selon qu’il s’agit de protections internes ou externes. |

| Summary, etc. | Rent-seeking in Europe. Institutional and political factors for the pace of decline in national markets protections This text seeks to show how rent-seeking is altered by the institutional and political context. After a brief survey of the related literature, we focus on the impact of the features of the political system on rent-seeking activities. Since the European nations experience a common trend of reductions in the national markets protections and face various situations of protections, they provide a suitable empirical material for a cross-country study. Using the OECD measure about the change of national market’s protections within the European Economic Area, we show results of rent-seeking activities are changed by the political and institutional national context. And these changes are different in accordance with the internal or external dimension of the protections. |
