| Summary, etc. | RésuméCet article analyse l’impact de la titrisation dans un modèle de concurrence bancaire à plusieurs périodes. Nous montrons en particulier que l’adoption du modèle originate-to-distribute peut induire une baisse de l’efficience du marché du crédit ( via la réduction des incitations à l’évaluation ex ante) et une augmentation du profit global des banques. Cet effet est lié à la concurrence sur le marché primaire du crédit, et non à l’exploitation par les banques d’asymétries d’information sur le marché secondaire. |

| Summary, etc. | We analyze the effect of loan securitization in a model where banks compete for borrowers over two periods. Our main result is that the adoption of the so-called “originate to distribute” model may adversely affect the efficiency of the credit market (through banks’ reduced screening incentives) while leading to an increase in banks’ overall profits. This effect is driven by competition in the primary credit market, and not by banks’ attempts to exploit informational asymmetries in the secondary market for loans.Classification JEL : G21 ; L12 ; L13 |
