| Summary, etc. | RésuméLes contraintes sur les mouvements migratoires en République populaire de Chine dues au système du hukou ont des conséquences significatives sur l’allocation des ressources. Au niveau individuel, elles agissent sur le cycle de vie des ruraux et sur l’allocation, non de leur travail, mais de leur capital : si, jeunes, ils sont libres d’aller travailler où ils le désirent, plus âgés, ils sont contraints de retourner dans les régions rurales et d’y investir leur épargne. Au niveau macroéconomique, cet article montre, à travers un modèle simple de développement d’une économie duale avec générations imbriquées, que ces contraintes, malgré une sous-optimalité apparente de l’allocation des ressources, accélèrent l’accumulation du capital en Chine. |

| Summary, etc. | The constraints on migration flows due to the hukou system have important implications for resources allocation in the People’s Republic of China. At the individual level, they act on rural people’s life cycle and on the allocation, not of their labor, but of their capital: if rural laborers, when young, are free to work wherever they wish, older, they are constrained to return to rural areas, and to invest there their savings. At the macroeconomic level, this article shows, through a simple model of a dual economy development with overlapping generations, that these constraints, despite an apparent suboptimality of resources allocation, hasten capital accumulation in China.Classification JEL : J61, O15, O24, P23. |
