| Summary, etc. | Les économistes français de la seconde moitié du xixe siècle ont abordé la question du déclin de la France dans une approche démographique et comparative avec l’Europe. Il ressort de leurs analyses un lien très fort entre déclin démographique et déclin économique. Paradoxalement, une des solutions privilégiées pour lutter contre ce déclin, toujours dans une approche comparative, est de lier les conditions du dynamisme économique et du dynamisme démo graphique aux projets d’expansion coloniale. Le Royaume-Uni représente à leurs yeux un exemple type de cette interprétation du déclin économique et des solutions retenues. |

We find in these analysis a strong link between demographic decline and economic decline.
