520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | This article explores the characteristics of the construction of racism in Mexico from a historical perspective. It demonstrates the importance of understanding colonial Mexico as a society with possibilities for social, economic and cultural mobility and exchange, while taking into account the contribution of Africans and Afrodescendants. This paper also analyses the social process that allows “mestizaje” (miscegenation) between Indigenous populations, Spanish and Africans. Finally, it explores how the “pseudoscientific” ideas of the Enlightening during the 18th century help to justify the enormous slave trade of Africans and shape the “racist” discourse that was developed in Mexico mostly during the 19th century. |

Summary, etc. |
