| Summary, etc. | Cette note étudie comment un choc de demande exogène, tel que des aides publiques, influence le potentiel d’exclusion contenu dans les effets d’apprentissage. Nous construisons un modèle de duopole à deux périodes dans lequel l’accroissement de production par une entreprise à la première période fait baisser son coût marginal de production à la seconde. Nous étudions ensuite un premier scénario dans lequel la demande et le processus d’apprentissage sont linéaires pour montrer qu’un choc positif de demande amplifie l’effet d’exclusion de l’apprentissage si et seulement si les entreprises sont suffisamment asymétriques en termes de capacités d’apprentissage. Dans un second scénario, les entreprises sont infiniment impatientes, ce qui permet de mettre en lumière le rôle clé joué par la courbure de la fonction de demande dans le potentiel d’exclusion des effets d’apprentissage à la suite d’un choc de demande.Classication JEL : D11, L13, Q42. |

| Summary, etc. | Demand shocks, learning-by-doing and exclusionThis note examines how an exogenous industry-wide demand shock, such as the one resulting from the use of governmental subsidies, affects the exclusionary potential of learning-by-doing. We develop a two-period duopoly model in which an increase in a firm’s first-period output leads to a decrease in its second-period marginal cost, and apply it to two special scenarios. In the first one demand and learning technologies are linear. We establish that a positive demand shock amplifies the exclusionary effect of learning-by-doing if and only if firms are sufficiently asymmetric in their learning abilities. In the second scenario, firms are infinitely impatient. We emphasize the key role of the demand curvature as a determinant of the effect of a demand shock on the exclusionary potential of learning-by-doing. |
