| Summary, etc. | Cet article propose une lecture, sous un versant épistémologique, des effets introduits par le néolibéralisme sur le champ de la santé mentale et, plus spécifiquement, la place de l’« usager ». Le « fou » de l’âge classique a cheminé, aussi bien dans la langue que dans les lieux, au fil des paradigmes de la psychiatrie. Il accéda finalement au statut d’« usager » dans le vent des dispositifs de santé mentale en émergence dès le milieu du XXe siècle. Ce cheminement ne peut se lire indépendamment de l’expansion de discours critiques sur les modes de gouvernement de l’individu. La contestation des modèles asilaires, dont l’antipsychiatrie anglaise est une illustration, s’engage en effet sur fond de prise de pouvoir individuelle et refus d’un maître. De ce terreau émerge un nouvel étalon, celui d’un usager gestionnaire de ses soins et entrepreneur de lui-même, à l’image du statut d’auto-entrepreneur, bouture néolibérale. Le présent article propose une lecture de cette discursivité à la lumière des pensées de Michel Foucault et de Jacques Lacan. Dans cette organisation, la santé mentale s’inscrit comme production d’une auto-entreprise alimentée par une complémentarité de savoirs en libre-circulation, suivant une économie de marché. Le caractère intenable de ce discours, où la dimension de l’insu semble exclue, se manifeste dans ses effets sur le sujet et les paysages du soin. L’insu exclu réapparaîtrait, par exemple, à travers les patients dits « résistants au traitement », figures d’une subjectivité en résistance. |

| Summary, etc. | This article offers an epistemological reading of the impact of neoliberalism on mental health. More specifically, it focuses on the "user." The "madman" of yore has made progress both theoretically and practically in the realm of psychiatry, culminating in acquiring a "user" status with relation to mental health systems that have been in place as of the mid-20th century. These developments cannot be read independently of the growth of critical discourses relating to the modes of governing the individual. The criticism leveled at the asylum models, for example by the English school of anti-psychiatry, focuses on individual empowerment and the rejection of subjection. Against this backdrop a new category emerges – that of a user, self-sufficient and capable of managing his needs, the counterpart of the entrepreneur in the neoliberal glossary. This article seeks to shed a new light on this discursivity, following in the footsteps of Michel Foucault and Jacques Lacan. Within this framework, mental health is understood as an upshot of entrepreneurship, shaped by the complementarity of the unhindered flow of knowledge that characterizes free market economy. The effects of the unsustainable nature of this proposition, in which the dimension of the unknown seems excluded, manifest themselves in the realm of the subject and in the landscape of caregiving. The excluded unknown reappears, for example, in patients who are allegedly "resistant to treatment" and whose subjectivity is marked by resistance. |
