| Summary, etc. | Grâce à un dispositif statistique portant sur 810 000 établissements observés chaque année de 1993 à 2001, nous testons l’hypothèse d’une différenciation spatiale de la démographie des établissements industriels (créations, suppressions, transferts...) entre les espaces urbains, périurbains ou ruraux. La démographie d’établissements est un phénomène économique massif : plus d’un établissement sur dix entre en activité chaque année et plus d’un sur dix en sort. Les espaces urbains sont caractérisés par un renouvellement intense du tissu productif (emplois et établissements). Les espaces périurbains sont dans une situation intermédiaire du point de vue de l’intensité des mouvements enregistrés, mais bénéficient d’un effet positif spécifique en termes de soldes démographiques. Dans les espaces ruraux, un faible taux de renouvellement s’accompagne d’un taux de survie plus favorable des établissements nouvellement créés. Effet structurel et effet géographique se conjuguent, mais leur ampleur diffère, le second étant beaucoup plus important. |

| Summary, etc. | Industrial plants demography : A differentiation between urban, periurban and rural areas Using a plant level data-set of 810 000 units, observed each year of 1993 to 2001, we test the assumption of space differentiation of industrial plants demography (creations, suppressions, transfers) between urban, periurban or rural areas. The demography of establishments first appears as a massive economic phenomenon : more than one plant out of ten enters in activity each year and more one on ten exits. Both plants and jobs are more often renewed in the urban areas. Periurban areas are in a medium situation in terms of demographic intensity but benefit of a specific positive effect in terms of final balance between entries and exits. In the rural areas, a weak rate of renewal is accompanied by a higher survival rate of the new created plants. Structural effect and geographical effect are combined, but their intensity differs, the second being much more important. |
