| Summary, etc. | Au cœur des stratégies agricoles de l’Égypte et des discours politiques qui les accompagnent depuis les années 1950, les terres des marges désertiques sont le lieu de consolidation d'un secteur de production agricole et agro-alimentaire renouvelé. Dédiées en partie à des productions à forte valeur ajoutée et à l'exportation, elles voient la montée en puissance de grandes exploitations entrepreneuriales depuis le tournant des années 1990. Cet article contribue à l’étude des fronts de conquête agricole en montrant comment, dans le cas égyptien, les ressources foncières désertiques ont été utilisées et en interrogeant les impacts territoriaux et socio-économiques de ce processus en cours. Il s’agit à la fois d’esquisser le portrait contemporain de ces nouveaux espaces d’investissement et de production et d’initier, à partir du cas égyptien, une réflexion sur la transformation des liens entre production, commercialisation et alimentation des populations. |

| Summary, etc. | Agricultural restructuring in Egypt’s new lands: political, socio-economic and food challengesAnalysing the major characteristics of contemporary agricultural stakeholders and spaces in Egypt needs to take into account the huge program of desert land reclamation. This article will contribute to the better understanding of the process of agricultural transformation on the new lands, as well as give some insight about the final destination of the products and their consumers. In doing so, we will highlight the links between three major components of this process: the successive agricultural and food strategies since the 1950s; desert land, as places of investment and production; the stakeholders and the plurality of their interests and objectives. |
