| Summary, etc. | Un regard panoramique sur les recherches françaises touchant au processus de racialisation dans les médias, en miroir notamment du défrichage assuré par la littérature états-unienne, laisse apparaître deux directions principales.La première voie relève d’une analyse intersectionnelle des représentations, en phase avec les conceptualisations de la racialisation traversant les cultural studies au niveau international, mais ne se donnant que rarement les moyens de prolonger l’exploration du processus jusqu’au niveau des pratiques des acteurs de la médiatisation. D’autre part et de façon presque complémentaire, des enquêtes au plus près des entreprises de médias et de leurs intervenants, tout en évitant de façon salutaire l’impasse rencontrée dans plusieurs pays d’une imputation de la racialisation à des caractéristiques inhérentes aux individus, ne font le plus souvent qu’effleurer le processus, subsumé dans une appréhension classiste des rapports sociaux.Cette ligne de fracture, réplique de ce qui peut être observé dans l’espace national plus large des sciences sociales à propos de la racialisation, n’empêche toutefois pas un certain nombre d’hybridations théoriques et méthodologiques dans certains travaux, parmi les plus contemporains, portant sur les médias. |

| Summary, etc. | An overview of French research on the process of racialization in the media, especially insofar as it mirrors the spadework in the US literature, shows two main research thrusts.The first is an intersectional analysis of representations which, although in phase with conceptualizations of racialization running through cultural studies in many countries, is seldom given the means to extend its exploration of the process into the practices of the actors of mediatization. On the other hand, and in an almost complementary way, while investigations that are carried out very close to media organizations and staff avoid the pitfall of imputing racialization to individuals’ inherent characteristics (one that has been encountered in several countries), they seldom do more than scratch the surface of the process while subsuming it in a classist understanding of social relations.This fault line, which duplicates what is found on the broader national scene of social science when it comes to racialization, does not, however, exclude theoretical and methodological hybridizations from some of the most contemporary work on media. |
