| Summary, etc. | Depuis 2010, des dizaines de monnaies locales ont été créées en France, d’abord sous forme de coupons de papier. Désormais, certaines circulent aussi sous forme numérique. L’article se fonde sur le cas de l’eusko, créé au Pays basque en 2013 et qui s’est doté d’une forme numérique en 2017. À partir d’une enquête ethnographique au sein de l’association Euskal Moneta « la monnaie basque », l’article retrace les principales étapes de l’introduction de moyens de compte et de paiement numériques. L’article analyse le rôle de ce processus de numérisation dans l’institutionnalisation de la monnaie locale. Nous montrons qu’il opère une double normalisation de la monnaie, par l’ajustement de son fonctionnement aux usages communs de l’argent et par une certaine reconnaissance des outils numériques par les autorités de régulation du secteur bancaire. Cette entrée marginale dans le secteur des services de paiement s’accompagne, chez les responsables de la monnaie, d’un travail visant à conserver l’ancrage militant de la monnaie et la nature de son projet politique. |

| Summary, etc. | Since 2010, dozens of local currencies have been created in France, initially in the form of paper coupons. Some of them are now also circulating in digital form. The article is based on the case of the eusko, created in Basque Country in 2013, which took on a digital form in 2017. Drawing on an ethnographic survey within the non-profit association Euskal Moneta,’the Basque currency’, the article traces the main stages of the introduction of digital means of accounting and payment. It analyses the role of this digitization in the institutionalization of local currency. We show that this process leads to a twofold normalization of the currency, by adjusting its functioning to the common uses of money, and by a certain recognition of digital tools by the regulatory authorities of the banking sector. Along with this marginal entry into the payment services sector, those in charge of the currency work to preserve its activist roots and the nature of its political project. |
