| Summary, etc. | This article presents early findings from a broader research project focused on ‘digital innovation’ in the military sector. Since Emmanuel Macron became president in 2017, the Ministry of the Armed Forces has prioritized the use of data generated by military equipment as part of its digital transformation. However, the market for large-scale, automated data processing has faced challenges, both organizational and technical. Based on a qualitative study conducted since 2019 (including 64 interviews and observations at various professional events), this article explores the difficulties in aligning supply and demand in this field, highlighting the important role of the State in these processes. The case of predictive maintenance for military equipment offers insights into the dynamics between key players, particularly between established defense companies and newcomers like GAFAM and start-ups. |

| Summary, etc. | Cet article présente les premiers résultats d’un programme de recherche plus large consacré à l’étude des projets d’« innovation numérique » dans le domaine militaire. Depuis l’arrivée au pouvoir d’Emmanuel Macron en 2017, la « valorisation » des données produites par les équipements militaires est considérée comme une priorité de la politique de transformation numérique du ministère des Armées. Or l’offre commerciale de traitement massif et automatisé de ces données peine à émerger, à la fois pour des raisons organisationnelles et techniques. En s’appuyant sur une enquête de type qualitatif menée depuis 2019 (soixante-quatre entretiens et plusieurs observations au sein d’événements professionnels), cet article suit les tâtonnements de la rencontre de l’offre et de la demande dans ce domaine, en montrant le rôle structurant de l’État dans ces processus. Le cas de la maintenance prédictive des équipements militaires permet d’étudier finement ce jeu d’acteurs et de mieux éclairer les rapports de pouvoir sur le marché, notamment entre les insiders (les grands groupes de l’armement) et les outsiders (GAFAM, start-up, etc.). |
