| Summary, etc. | L’usage d’un vaccin requiert un discernement éthique sur ses conditions de fabrication, ses modalités d’action, la tension entre le respect de la liberté individuelle et la promotion du bien commun. Il s’agit parfois d’évaluer le degré de responsabilité dans la collaboration au mal, ou l’effectivité d’une manipulation du vivant, et de poser un jugement proportionné. Il s’agit toujours de préserver la nécessaire adaptabilité du vivant face au danger, comme un don de la Création qui renforce le devoir d’évaluer les limites qui doivent être assignées à la technique. Il faut enfin promouvoir la justice dans l’accès aux vaccins, en privilégiant les plus vulnérables, et le bien commun qui requiert collaboration et action concrète de la part de chaque citoyen, des institutions y compris l’Église, jusqu’au niveau économique et géopolitique. |

| Summary, etc. | The usage of a vaccine requires an ethical discernment regarding the conditions in which it is produced, the ways in which it is used, and the tension between respect for individual liberties and the promotion of the common good. Sometimes, one must evaluate the degree of responsibility in cooperating with evil and the appropriateness of manipulating living organisms, and offer judgments based on principles of proportionality. It is always a question of preserving the necessary adaptability of living beings in the face of danger, as a gift of Creation that reinforces the duty to evaluate the limits that must be imposed on technology. Finally, it is necessary to promote justice in the access to vaccines by giving priority to the most vulnerable and recognising the common good which calls for collaboration and concrete action on the part of every citizen, from institutions including the Church, all the way to the economic and geopolitical level. |
