| Summary, etc. | Le choix du terme « sanction » permet de considérer la peine carcérale sous sa dimension éducative. Cet article précise les conditions relationnelles et institutionnelles nécessaires à la restauration chez le détenu de l’estime de soi, de sa liberté au sein des conditionnements et de sa responsabilité. Ceci requiert de solliciter son autonomie dès sa détention, et de favoriser le maintien et le développement de ses liens sociaux. Le recours à la religion requiert discernement pour éviter l’emprise exercée sur les plus précaires. La charité chrétienne, outre le soutien de Dieu et de la communauté, invite le détenu à s’appuyer sur la figure du Christ pour reconstruire sa liberté d’aimer au sein de la violence et de la souffrance de l’incarcération, afin de préparer positivement son avenir. |

| Summary, etc. | The choice of the term “sanction” allows us to consider prison sentences in their educational dimension. This article sets out the relational and institutional conditions necessary for the restoration of a prisoner’s self-esteem, freedom in the midst of conditioning, and his own sense of responsibility. This requires supporting the prisoner’s autonomy from the outset and fostering the maintenance and development of his social ties. Recourse to religion requires discernment, to prevent the most vulnerable from being manipulated by others. Christian charity, in addition to the support of God and the community, invites the prisoner to rely on the figure of Christ to rebuild his freedom to love in the midst of the violence and suffering of incarceration, in order to prepare positively for his future. |
