| Summary, etc. | L’histoire théologique du handicap, du Moyen Âge à aujourd’hui, démontre l’influence réciproque de l’image de Dieu et du regard sur les personnes handicapées. La théologie a longtemps favorisé leur exclusion sociale, car la dignité reçue de la conformation au Christ souffrant n’a pas empêché le jugement moral de complicité avec le démoniaque, ou la valorisation d’une soumission doloriste. La science a permis de lever les préjugés mais la tradition hospitalière fragilisée n’a pas su lutter contre la violence de la normalisation sociale. La théologie contemporaine est invitée à valoriser la vulnérabilité comme source de créativité et de liens sociaux solidaires, et à fonder à nouveau frais la dignité des personnes et l’hospitalité à leur égard dans la vulnérabilité à laquelle le Christ a consenti. |

| Summary, etc. | The theological history of disability, from the Middle Ages to the present day, demonstrates the reciprocal influence of the image of God and the gaze upon disabled people. Theology long favoured their social exclusion, because the dignity received from conformity to the suffering Christ did not preclude moral judgements of complicity with demonic forces, or the valorisation of a doloristic submission. Science has made it possible to dispel prejudices, but the weakened hospital tradition has not been able to fight against the violence of social normalisation. Contemporary theology is invited to value vulnerability as a source of creativity and social solidarity, and to ground the dignity of people and hospitality towards them in the vulnerability which Christ himself accepted. |
