| Summary, etc. | L’éthique se cantonne parfois à traiter les machines comme des moyens neutres. Simondon estime au contraire que la technique fait pénétrer une normativité nouvelle dans la communauté humaine. Il soulève ainsi la question de l’aliénation : la technique rend « autres » les conditions dans lesquelles s’effectuent les choix moraux. La cause de l’aliénation réside alors, selon lui, dans notre méconnaissance de la machine. En invitant à comprendre la machine avant de la juger, Simondon renverse la perspective traditionnelle. L’éthique devient relationnelle : elle évalue la moralité de nos relations avec les machines et, à travers elles, avec le monde. Cette orientation éclaire les enjeux éthiques de la robotisation. Nous considérerons trois types de problèmes : ceux que Simondon a traités ; ceux qu’il n’a pas traités, faute d’avoir pu connaître les technologies qui les induisent ; enfin, ceux qu’il a indiqués comme urgents mais que les philosophes des techniques peinent encore à formuler. |

| Summary, etc. | Sometimes ethics limits its take on machines as if they were neutral instruments. In opposition, Simondon believes that technology endows humanity with a new normativity. His is the question concerning alienation: the conditions of moral choice are rendered "other" by technology. The cause of alienation then resides in human ignorance of the true nature of the machine. Simondon topples the traditional perspective by claiming that the machine is to be understood before it can be judged. Ethics, therefore, becomes relational: it morally evaluates our relations with machines and with the world via machines. This sheds new light on ethical issues in robotics. We consider three types of problems: the ones analyzed by Simondon; those he did not study since he couldn’t guess the underlying technology; finally, the ones he flagged as urgent, with which philosophers of technology struggle up to now. |
