| Summary, etc. | Cet article fait valoir l’intérêt d’une ressaisie contemporaine de l’idéal de formation informelle de soi par le rapport aux œuvres culturelles et aux imaginaires fictionnels. Nous montrons ainsi comment les imaginaires de l’éthique se reconstruisent désormais largement au contact d’œuvres culturelles de large diffusion, qui peuplent les « médiathèques » privées des individus et sont les supports des formations de soi certes informelles, mais néanmoins décisives. Nous nous confrontons ainsi à la double interrogation suivante : comment notre personnalité éthique se constitue-t-elle aujourd’hui dans ce cadre culturel inédit, dans la prime éducation certes mais aussi tout au long de la vie ? Comment intégrer substantiellement à ce premier champ de questionnement un autre fait marquant de l’hypermodernité – à savoir l’accès du plus grand nombre à une très grande gamme de biens culturels – qui marque ces mêmes sociétés à un point également inédit ? Une première partie nous permet alors de préciser la manière dont nous appréhendons la rencontre de l’exigence d’autonomie morale généralisée et de la culture démocratique dans une modernité radicalisée. Cela nous invite, pour penser éthiquement notre temps, à tenter une extension du domaine des œuvres de formation, dont nous en dégageons les linéaments dans une seconde partie, non sans proposer des pistes méthodologiques pour leur étude dans la recherche en éthique. Une ouverture conclusive nous permet enfin de suggérer une piste interprétative plus globale quant aux capacités respectives de l’éthique et de l’imagination à faire autorité aujourd’hui. |

| Summary, etc. | This article argues for the interest of a contemporary re-understanding of the ideal of informal self-formation through the relationship to cultural works and fictional imaginaries. We show how the imaginary of ethics is now largely reconstructed in contact with widely distributed cultural works, which populate the private «media libraries» of individuals and are the supports of informal, but nonetheless decisive, self-formation. We are thus confronted with the following double question: how is our ethical personality constituted today in this new cultural framework, certainly in early education but also throughout life; how can we substantially integrate into this first field of questioning another striking fact of hypermodernity - namely the access of the greatest number of people to a very large range of cultural goods - which marks these same societies to an equally new extent? A first part allows us then to specify the way in which we apprehend the meeting of the requirement of generalized moral autonomy and democratic culture in a radicalized modernity. This invites us, in order to think ethically about our time, to attempt an extension of the domain of the works of formation, of which we draw the lineaments in a second part, not without proposing methodological tracks for their study in the research in ethics. A concluding section allows us to suggest a more global interpretive track regarding the respective capacities of ethics and imagination to be authoritative today. |
