| Summary, etc. | La crise de 1816-1817 fait partie des crises qui frappaient gravement la population agricole pendant la période post-revolutionnaire. Elle a ravagé non seulement la France mais aussi toute l’Europe. Elle a commencé par une sous-production agricole, causée par de brutaux changements climatiques et s’est achevée par un rapide retour à la normale, sans grande influence sur la stabilité politique. Les éléments internationaux s’ajoutent au cours des crises suivantes, y compris celle de 1825 et celle de 1836-1837. Différents secteurs économiques étaient alors touchés en même temps que le secteur agricole. Les divers éléments recueillis sur cette crise – analyses statistiques portant sur l’évolution des prix des grains et des subsistances, sur les variables démographiques, ainsi que les enquêtes détaillées dont l’on dispose relatives aux révoltes populaires – amènent à conclure que 1816-17 fut la dernière grande crise d’Ancien régime suivant les critères d’Ernest Labrousse. |

| Summary, etc. | The crisis of 1816-1817 was one of the most serious crises to affect the agricultural population in the post-revolutionary period. It affected not only France, but also all of Europe. The crisis began with brutal climate changes that in turn depleted the agricultural production. The agricultural stocks were severely damaged and this led to a wide, extended famine. International factors compiled to add to crises that followed, including those of 1825 and 1836-7. Different economic sectors were touched in addition to the agricultural sector. The diverse studies that have been collected to study this crisis—statistical analyses of the evolution of the price of grains and subsistence goods, demographic variables, as well as detailed investigations of popular revolts—lead to the conclusion the crisis of 1816-7 is indeed the last one of the “Ancien regime”, according to the criteria established by Ernest Labrousse.JEL Classification : C15, H61, H71, I15, I18, J11. |
