Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Historians and economists are interested in the same subject but they approach that subject from different perspectives and with different objectives. As one might expect, they come to different conclusions about the long-term process of economic development that took place during industrialization. Although they are approaching their subject from a national perspective, most American historians stress individual actions of entrepreneurship that are time and place particular. They look as well to the culture that makes it likely that these actions will be copied and their impact spread through a region and ultimately the entire society. In both history and in development theory, there is recognition that financial support is essential to innovators, but the economists stress aggregates and the historians look to the varieties of institutions and individuals who have backed entrepreneurs from Samuel Slater to Steve Jobs. Theory and history are both useful so long as their differences are understood.JEL Classification : B15, B25, D03, D23, F5, F6, N01, N6, N81, N82 |
