| Summary, etc. | RésuméNous nous proposons d’étudier Sieyès en tant que théoricien du contrat social. Nous démontrerons que son contractualisme et les différentes étapes qui marquent le passage de l’état de nature à l’état social, puis positif, ont deux conséquences. La première est la prédétermination du résultat de l’expression du pouvoir constituant, et la seconde est la formulation d’une théorie spécifique de la révolution. Enfin, nous expliquerons dans quelle mesure l’on peut se baser sur ces éléments pour éclairer l’évolution de la pensée sieyèsienne entre 1789 et l’an III. |

| Summary, etc. | Our aim is to study Sieyès as a social contract theorician. We shall demonstrate that his contractualism and the various steps leading from the state of nature to the civil and the positive state bring about two consequences. Firstly, the predetermination of what results from the expression of the constituent power. Secondly, the wording of an explicit doctrine of Revolution. Finally, we shall explain to what extent one can rely on these elements to throw light on the evolution of Sieyès’s thought between 1789 and Year III. |
