| Summary, etc. | Résumé Si l’année 2008 a semblé l’année de Barack Obama, le président sortant, George W. Bush, a bien plus alors occupé l’espace médiatique qu’il n’apparaît. Ont notamment été produits deux spectacles théâtraux (une pièce contemporaine, un one man show comique) et, surtout, un long métrage biographique d’Oliver Stone. Cet article tente de faire émerger la vision de Bush dessinée par ces interprétations artistiques et, peut-être à travers elles, par l’histoire. Le portrait qui ressort de ces œuvres, et spécialement du film W, est celui d’une présidence souvent ridicule, qui prend parfois la forme d’une redite grotesque de figures tragiques ou admirées du passé, tels que Nixon ou Reagan. |

| Summary, etc. | While Barack Obama was the person of the year 2008, the incumbent president, George W. Bush, was then a lot more present in the media than expected, with two theatrical shows—a contemporary play and a comical one man show—and, significantly, a biographical Hollywood movie directed by Oliver Stone. This article is an attempt to capture the way the figure of Bush has been shaped by these artistic interpretations and, through them, by history. The portrait emerging from these works is that of an often-ridiculed presidency, which seemingly constitutes a grotesque retelling of events, in which tragic or admired figures of the past, such as Nixon and Reagan, have a central place. |
