| Summary, etc. | Dans cet article, nous explorons les liens qui unissent l’écriture poétique d’Emily Dickinson aux troubles oculaires dont elle souffrit. Ce faisant, nous tentons de comprendre le travail du visuel dans son œuvre comme fondateur d’un ancrage problématique tant dans le signe linguistique que dans le symptôme médical. En montrant la place centrale qu’occupe pour elle l’épistolaire, nous situons les troubles oculaires dans une économie de la distance, puis mettons au jour la tension entre visible et invisible que l’épisode oculaire viendra réaliser dans le symptôme. |

| Summary, etc. | In this article, we explore the links between Emily Dickinson’s poetic writing and the eye disorder from which she suffered. In doing so, we seek to understand how, in her writing, the visual works to establish a problematic anchoring in both the linguistic sign and the medical symptom. By demonstrating the centrality of the epistolary genre for Dickinson, we situate her ocular disorders in an economy of distance, bringing to light the tension between visible and invisible that her eye disorder symptomatically performs. |
