| Summary, etc. | À la fin des années 1970, le secteur de la réparation automobile a connu l’offensive des chaînes de réparations rapides structurées sur le modèle de grande distribution. Elles ont alors proposé une nouvelle façon de traiter la demande du client. En mobilisant les travaux liés à l’économie des qualités, nous montrons que cette tentative de reconfiguration du marché s’est à la fois heurtée aux propriétés intrinsèques de l’objet, définies comme « épistémologiquement obscures » [Borg, 2012], et à la façon dont les artisans traitent les besoins du client, c’est-à-dire de manière interprétable et ajustable à des besoins singuliers [Karpik, 2007 ; Mallard, 2011]. |

| Summary, etc. | The impeded development of large retailing in the automobile repair businessIn the late 1970s, the distribution and automotive repair sector from chains offering fast-repair solutions based on the model of mass distribution. They then proposed a new way to deal with customer demand.
