| Summary, etc. | En mai 1947, une mutinerie de jeunes filles confiées à l’Éducation surveillée éclate à Fresnes. Signe alarmant de l’échec de la rééducation, elle suscite l’intérêt de la presse et donne lieu à une enquête d’envergure de la part de l’institution qui s’attache à en déceler les causes et définir les responsabilités. La directrice, Raymonde Desbois, nommée en octobre 1946, est au cœur de l’attention. À partir des différentes sources disponibles, administratives et journalistiques, auxquelles s’ajoutent des cahiers, parfois personnels, que la directrice a tenus, il s’agit de suivre Raymonde Desbois dans l’exercice de sa fonction, de cerner la manière dont elle envisage sa mission, d’entrevoir les relations qu’elle entretient avec les mineures et les éducatrices. En regard de leur nature et leurs intentions, les propos s’entrelacent, se complètent et se contredisent. Ils permettent toutefois la construction d’un portrait, empreint de nuances et de discordances. |

| Summary, etc. | In May 1947, a mutiny led by girls entrusted to l’Éducation surveillée broke out in Fresnes. It was seen as an alarming sign of the failure of reform facilities/rehabilitation, aroused the interest of the press and resulted in a large-scale investigation by the institution intent on finding its causes and identifying the responsible parties. Raymonde Desbois, the headmistress appointed in October 1946, was under scrutiny. Based on available administrative and journalistic sources as well as notebooks – including personal ones – that the headmistress herself wrote, this work aims at following Raymonde Desbois in the carrying out of her duties, trying to grasp she way she considered her mission and getting a glimpse of the relationships she had with the underage girls and the teachers. According to the nature and the intention of the documents, the comments about her intertwine, complete and contradict each other. Yet, they allow for her portrait to be drawn in all its nuances and discrepancies. |
