| Summary, etc. | RésuméCet article souhaite relire et questionner un incident antisémite de la fin des années 1930, à savoir celui de la radiation des électeurs juifs des listes électorales de Sidi-Bel-Abbès dans le département d’Oran, épisode assez caractéristique de la renaissance des mouvements antijuifs algériens qui précèdent la Seconde Guerre mondiale.Or l’épisode antisémite de 1938, certes mineur au regard de la période vichyste, met en lumière, à travers la focale sur les pratiques électorales ou la définition de l’indigénat, les mécanismes d’exclusion propre au droit colonial, tout en soulignant aussi l’autonomie relative des administrations et municipalités locales vis-à-vis de l’administration centrale, c’est-à-dire du gouvernement général de l’Algérie. |

| Summary, etc. | A contested French citizenshipThis article will attempt to outline and questions an anti-Semitic incident, which happened at the end of the nineteen thirties. During this period, Jewish voters were struck off from electoral rolls of the town of Sidi-Bel-Abbes located in the region of Oran. This incident provided only one example between many others of the rebirth of Algerian anti-Jewish movements prior to the Second World War.It is true that this anti-Semitic stance of 1938 is relatively minor in comparison to the treatment of the Jews during the Vichy period. However, through its focus on electoral practices and the definition of the Indigenous population, it highlights the exclusion mechanisms inherent in every colonial system. It also emphasises the relative autonomy of local administrations and local authorities from the central administration i.e. the Algerian government. |
