| Summary, etc. | La période de sortie de guerre concerne au premier chef les propriétaires châtelains touchés par la Première Guerre mondiale dans le nord-est de la France. Elle soulève de nombreux défis qui les obligent à s’adapter et à improviser. Les décisions ne vont pas toujours de soi pour les propriétaires de bâtisses d’exception aux caractéristiques variées et empreintes d’une histoire parfois pluriséculaire. La pertinence domaniale devient alors un véritable enjeu qui nécessite d’analyser en profondeur les composantes domaniales, qu’elles soient matérielles ou symboliques. Décider de l’avenir du domaine dépend en effet du degré d’investissement et de la capacité des châtelains à remettre en état des domaines fortement éprouvés. Faire face aux singularités des processus administratifs et humains complexes confronte également les châtelains à leur propre système de valeurs et de représentations. De fait, la patrimonialisation est révélatrice des modalités selon lesquelles les propriétaires ont appréhendé les atteintes commises envers leurs demeures. |

| Summary, etc. | The “post-war” period intensely jeopardized the owners of the castles which had been affected by the First World War in Northeastern France. It raised many challenges that forced them to adapt and to improvise. Decisions were not always taken for granted by the owners of those exceptional (and sometimes centuries-old) buildings. The relevance of the domain became a sharp issue that required an exhaustive analysis of the components of these rural estates, whether material or symbolic. Deciding on the future of the estates depended on the degree of investment and the ability of the owners to rehabilitate the properties that had been severely damaged. The specificities of complex administrative and human processes also led the owners to redefine their own system of values and representation when they had to face major material damage, so that heritage conservation revealed the way in which the owners apprehended the attacks committed against their homes. |
