| Summary, etc. | Le thème du pardon renvoie à des pratiques sociales très différentes, voire contradictoires. S’agissant du Rwanda, il est convoqué par de nombreux acteurs religieux et politiques dans la perspective de construire de l’unité nationale. Seront observés, à partir d’une paroisse catholique rurale, les discours et les pratiques qui répondent aux rapports complexes entre le pardon, l’établissement d’une vérité et l’exercice de la justice. En février 1999, l’Église catholique initie le synode gacaca chrétien, en juin 2002, les autorités politiques inaugurent les juridictions gacaca. Le clergé doit conduire sa politique de réconciliation en fonction de ces dispositifs qui ne sont pas de même nature et qui n’ont pas les mêmes objectifs. |

| Summary, etc. | The notion of forgiveness is used to refer to forms of social practice that are quite different, even mutually contradictory. In the case of Rwanda, it is employed by a variety of different religious and political agents as a means for building « national unity ». The present article, based upon an investigative observation of a rural Roman Catholic parish, analyses the types of discourse and practice that emerge from the complex set of relations between forgiveness, truth discernement, and the exercice of justice. Following the launch of the Christian synod of gacaca by the Catholic Church in 1999, the political authorities set up the first gacaca courts in June 2002. The clergy was obliged to pursue its policy of « reconciliation » in accordance with this judicial system, notwithstanding that its nature and objectives were not its own. |
