| Summary, etc. | Cet article a comme objet le débat qui eut lieu du 14 au 22 mai 1790 à l’Assemblée nationale constituante sur la question constitutionnelle du droit de guerre et de paix. Il propose une analyse lexicométrique du terme « paix », à l’aide du logiciel IRaMuTeQ et en utilisant les algorithmes de la méthode Alceste, en tant que chapitre d’une histoire conceptuelle de la paix. Arguant qu’un concept « négatif » de paix, c’est-à-dire un concept dont la signification reste subordonnée à celle de son contraire, la guerre, se dégagent néanmoins les contours d’une signification « positive » aux prises avec le concept de souveraineté populaire. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper treats the debate that took place from 14-22 May 1790 at the French National Assembly on the constitutional question of the right of war and peace. A lexicometrical analysis, using the programme IRaMuTeQ and the algorithm Alceste, of the concept of peace constitutes a chapter of a conceptual history of peace. The paper argues that a ‘negative’ understanding of peace prevails, ie. the signification of peace remains largely subordinated to that of its contrary, war. Nevertheless, a « positive » understanding also emerges, linked to the more encompassing problem of popular sovereignty. |
