| Summary, etc. | Cet article s’interroge sur la notion très usitée de radicalisation et propose un état des recherches sur ce sujet. À travers des exemples tirés d’expériences diverses de combat, autant islamistes que nationalistes, il pose un regard non essentialiste sur la notion de radicalisation exagérément reliée aux seules études sur l’islamisme jihadiste. Il propose également un modèle d’analyse des phénomènes d’engagement progressif dans la lutte armée, privilégiant une analyse processuelle de l’engagement et une mise en avant de certains facteurs déterminants. Parmi ceux-ci, l’article privilégie une approche sociologique des formes de socialisation et d’adaptation cognitive à la violence, ainsi que psychosociologique, insistant sur les liens entre recours à la violence et rehausse de l’estime de soi. |

| Summary, etc. | Thinking radicalisationThis article examines the overused notion of radicalisation and analyses the research that has been done so far on the subject. The article tries, thanks to examples taken from diverse conflicts and struggles of both islamists and nationalists, to put forward a more general and objective point of vue on the notion of radicalisation, one that has until now been exclusively tied to the research done on Islamic jihadists. At the same time, the article also attempts to present a new way to analyse the phenomenon of progressive military involvement, favouring a step by step analysis of the involvement and focusing on certain determinant factors. Among them, the author favours a sociological look on the means of socialization and adaptation to violence yet also a psychological one, insisting on the link between the need for violence and the enhancement of one’s self esteem. |
