| Summary, etc. | La Première Guerre mondiale a représenté un tournant majeur dans la lutte contre la tuberculose en France. Alors que les efforts déployés contre cette maladie sociale étaient jusqu’alors restés des plus modestes, un encadrement militaire et civil se met en place dès la fin de l’année 1915 pour conjurer le risque crucial de contamination que fait courir la présence de tuberculeux dans les armées. Cet article se propose de revenir sur cette organisation en montrant – à rebours de l’historiographie classique qui confère à la mission Rockefeller un rôle déterminant – qu’elle a articulé plusieurs niveaux d’intervention, de collaboration ministérielle, de traitement et de financement. |

| Summary, etc. | The Great War and Efforts to Combat Tuberculosis in FranceThe First World War represented a major turning point in the fight against tuberculosis in France. Before the war, efforts to tackle that social disease had been minimal. But by late 1915, a military and civil system of organisation was being put in place to reduce the crucial risk of contamination represented by the presence of tuberculosis carriers in the army. This article looks at that organisation and shows – in contrast to the conventional historiography, which gives the Rockefeller Mission a decisive role – that it connected several levels of intervention : ministerial collaboration, treatment and funding. |
