| Summary, etc. | Le propos de cette contribution est la synthèse méthodologique des relations entre l’art des jardins, les études littéraires et l’histoire du livre, de la fin du Moyen Âge à celle du xvie siècle. À partir de trois exemples (le jardin maniériste de Bomarzo, les éditions vénitiennes et françaises de l’ Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, le manuscrit du Trésor amoureux) on définit des notions clés pour l’esthétique de l’objet : les échelles du jardin rapportées aux genres littéraires, le chemin de fer du livre à la cinétique de l’œuvre, le format éditorial à son affichage ou déguisement. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper purports to sum up from a methodological point of view the relationships between garden design, literary studies and history of the book, from the end of the Middle Ages till that of the 16th century. Building on three examples (the mannerist garden of Bomarzo, the Venitian and French printings of the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, and the handwritten copy of the Trésor amoureux) it focuses on several notions which are crucial for making a jugement in terms of aesthetical quality: the different scales of the garden applied to literary genres, the plastic layout of the book to the kinetic features of the work, and the editorial design as referred to what the work displays or pretends to be. |
