| Summary, etc. | Résumé L’analyse des publications et la comparaison avec d’autres pays européens font ressortir quelques caractéristiques spécifiques du mouvement de scientifisation de la géographie française. L’appel aux mathématiques y est lié à la « révolution théorique et quantitative » des années 1970-1972. Avec un retard de vingt ans sur la New Geography venue des États-Unis et de la Suède, la discipline s’est mobilisée, par un effort de formation des jeunes enseignants-chercheurs, par une réflexion conjuguant quantification et théorisation et par une réorientation vers les notions d’espace, de système et de dynamique, avec un développement des techniques d’analyse spatiale et de modélisation. |

| Summary, etc. | Some specific features in the evolution of French Geography towards more scientific methods are presented, from an analysis of contents of the literature and comparisons with other European countries. The introduction of mathematics is linked with the « Theoretical and Quantitative Revolution » over the period 1970-1972. Twenty years after the development of New Geography in the United States and Sweden, the discipline developed through a concerted effort to train young scholars for teaching and research, according to a view which combined quantification and theorising with a reorientation towards the notions of space, systems and dynamics, with the development of techniques of spatial analysis and modelling. |
