520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | This article aims at analysing to what extent the institutionalisation of a science of colonial government within the training of colonial administrators is part of a strategy used by colonial administrators to defend their authority and legitimacy in a context marked by the claims of the African elite and the growing powers of more technical services. It will be our argument that, faced with these two factors, these officers, whose role was purely political, tried to find a new raison d’être through a more scientific legitimacy. This strategy was also part of a process of professionalisation of a service, which till then defined itself by its amateurism. |
